Evaluation process using peer-reviewed method

La Tercera Orilla performs a peer-reviewed evaluation using the double blind method.

Reception and editorial assessment

Stage 1. Once the call for publications has concluded, a notification will be sent to those authors that meet all requirements for being published within the various sections of the journal. The editorial committee has full authority to decide if the receipt article might enter to a full arbitration process or if it is declined at the first stage. Likewise, the editorial committee might return the manuscript suggesting some changes and clarifications in order to proceed officially with the arbitration process. Thereupon, if authors want to return the article with the proposed adjustments applied (or with missing documentation, e.g. authors’ information sheet or authorization letter), they must send all missing features in a new version of the manuscript.

Stage 2. The editorial committee will start the academic peers assignation process for the articles that passed the first stage. This process consists on calling an expert researcher within the thematic area of the article. The called academic peer receives not only the complete manuscript of the article, but also an assessment form. This form is accessible to the public in general and might be consulted in the journal´s ethic regulation.

Note: Articles that belong to the concluded research section will be the only ones submitted for peer-review assessment. Articles that belong to the other two sections in the journal are directly approved by the editorial committee and do not depend on external evaluators.

Assesment timeline

Even though articles can always be received in the journal, there will be two main calls for submitting articles so to choose the ones that will appear in the annual issues. The first main call will take into account articles received between February and April so that they are published in the first journal issue, while the second main call will take into account those received between August and October so that they are published in the second issue. The Editorial Committee takes approximately 20 working days to fulfill the assessment of stage 1 articles and to contact academic peers for the peer-review assessment. Furthermore, the academic peers have one month to deliver their evaluation.

Results

The result of the evaluation may be: Approved without amendments, approved with amendments or rejected.

Amendments

Authors have two weeks to make necessary amendments to the manuscript so that the articles might definitely be published. If authors breach the time agreed with the editorial committee to deliver the amendments, the later one might finish the assessment process of the article, and thus, ruling the article out of the journal.

Editorial production

Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga has three weeks to publish a new journal’s issue. The publication process is divided in the following stages: style editing, layout and online publishing. Only the articles that meet all the requirements previously mentioned and that sign the copyrights form, will be published. (the copyright signed form justifies copyrights compliance and the publication of a research or artistic work in rigor)

Reproductions and translations

In case a complete article previously published in La Tercera Orilla journal wants to be reproduced or translated, a request must be made and intended to the directive committee of the journal. Naturally, there is no inconvenience with partial reproductions of articles for academic texts. By all means, any partial reproduction must be properly quoted and must make reference to its original information such as article’s authors, year of publication, volume and issue.

Legal Note

Points of view or perspectives that are expressed in the articles and texts that La Tercera Orilla publishes are responsibility of its authors and do not compromise the journal, the publishing house or the Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga under any measure.
