Editorial ethics

La Tercera Orilla Journal adheres to the Principles of Transparency and Best Practices in Academic Publications suggested by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), leaving clarity on the principle of Open Access that encourages it in the editorial process, preservation and availability of its contents.

In this sense, the following editorial guidance regarding ethical aspects is made explicit:

  • We progressively follow the trends of information transparency and improvement of our editorial process based on the Open Journal System Platform as a possible ecosystem of Open Access to our content.
  • The copyright terms of reference are governed by the Creative Commons License -Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike, which permits others to redistribute, remix, tweak, and build upon the journal's content, as long as it is not done for commercial purposes, it’s given credit to the journal and the new creations are licensed under the same conditions.
  • Even when the authors grant exclusive rights to their articles to La Tercera Orilla Journal, it is considered possible to publish the pdf version of the article in the repositories of the institution that is related to the author, as well as in personal networks, as long as the data of the volume and the respective link to the OJS of the journal are made explicit, for the purposes of proper citation.
  • The criteria for citation and management of authors in the contents of the journal are governed by the standard developed by the American Psychological Association (APA Standards, in Spanish). We follow the progressive trends of incorporating content on the web, as established in this Association, seeking to maintain the academic rigor of the origin of the sources.
  • The contribution suggested by the authors is reviewed and submitted to the following editorial steps:
    • It is guaranteed that the works submitted comply with the established guidelines.
    • It is guaranteed that the submitted works are aligned with the thematic interest of the journal, from the established approach.
    • The articles sent for the refereed section follow the double-blind evaluation modality, with experts selected according to their academic trajectory in some of the areas that correspond to the content. The evaluators declare in each arbitration that there is no conflict of interest to participate as referees of the journal.
    • The possible results in the arbitration process of submitted articles are: approved without modifications, approved with modifications, rejected.

    • The authors (in all sections of the journal) are informed throughout the editorial process. If the article or content is approved, the deadlines required in the process are progressively reported; In the refereed section, the journal sends the author the assessment made by the peers, from a constructive perspective in the search for quality of the scientific literature provided.
    • All articles are subjected to a process of proofreading, after which a pre-final version is sent to the author with possibilities of form adjustments, in terms that seek not to compromise the periodicity of the journal.
  • The following are considered inappropriate behaviors on the part of the authors: 
    • The magazine seeks to permanently update the mechanisms for reviewing the originality of the submitted content. Verified plagiarism implies the immediate rejection of the proposal, with the respective notification.
    • The duplication of articles. Content that exceeds 75% originality compared to a document by one of the authors, published in another academic journal, will not be accepted.
  • The personal data of the authors will be used exclusively for the purposes declared by this journal and will not be available for any other purpose or to another person.
