Los accidentes biológicos y caracterización del riesgo en estudiantes de enfermería
Abstract
Biological accidents can be an adverse event for nursing students given that the latter share the same workplace as any health worker. This risk comes from the likelihood of exposure to infectious agents, mainly those of viral type (hepatitis B or C, human immunodeficiency virus /HIV) owing to percutaneous exposure, in the majority of cases. The narrow patient/nurse relationship which is meant to be common practice in the profession, increases the risk of accidents compared to other health careers. This problem had been studied worldwide but there is no data showing the problem in Colombia, although there are information concerning other health careers. The aim of this review is to present a concise and brief account of the most common biological accidents as well as its characterization on nursing students, identifying the degree of knowledge, skills and the application of prevention and biosecurity standards according to the literature found which will allow us to identify strategies to improve the safety of students in different clinical and community practices.
