Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • It is an original and unpublished article, which has not been sent to another Journal (nor will it be sent), unless it is rejected during the Editorial Process.

  • It is an article that is not published, partially or totally, in another national or foreign scientific journal.

  • None of the data presented in the article is the product of plagiarism, invention, manipulation or distortion. What is presented in the article is the result of an investigative process in which the authors participated.

  • The written consent of those who have contributed unpublished data through written communication has been obtained.

  • The information contained in the article has been correctly cited, referring to previous works and bibliography consulted in primary sources of information.

  • The source of Figures, Tables, Data, Photographs, among others, previously published is suitably cited in the article.

  • The submitted manuscript is in .doc, .docx format

  • All the URLs used in the manuscript have been verified and are active at the time of file submission.

  • The text complies with what is stipulated in the Guide for Authors section.

Author Guidelines

Guide for authors

They will be considered original articles, of high technical and scientific quality (in Spanish or English), typed in Microsoft Word under Windows (format .doc, .docx), that have a minimum extension of ten (10) pages (maximum extension of 25 pages) letter size (including Tables, Figures), with symmetric margins of 2.5 cm, without columns, Times New Roman font, size 12 points, single space, without indentation at the beginning of the paragraph. Do not send articles that have been edited or will be edited in any other event or Journal.

The images must be in black and white or color (Image size 800 px by 600 px; Depth in bits 300 dpi) and must be sent both in the text and in a separate electronic file (jpg or png format). The Tables and Figures must be sent in their original modifiable file.

The articles must be presented in the following structure:

  • Title in Spanish and English (fewer possible words that adequately describe the content of the article).
  • Name of the author(s), ORCID iD, level of education, current institutional affiliation, city, country and email.
  • Summary of 150 words in Spanish.
  • Summary in English (abstract).
  • Keywords in English and Spanish (Maximum 5 keywords).
  • Development of the article.
  • Acknowledgments (optional).
  • Bibliography in APA Style (the use of Mendeley is suggested).
  • Short-Bio of the author(s).

Procedure for sending articles for publication

National and international authors must send the following documents to the Editor of the Colombian Journal of Computing through the following means: (i) E-mail of the Journal: rcc@unab.edu.co or, (ii) Open Journal System Platform (OJS) of the Journal.

  1. Letter of presentation of the article (where the author manifests the originality of the article).
  2. Letter of assignment (where the author assigns the rights to the Colombian Journal of Computing).
  3. The article in digital format using the rules of presentation that can be consulted in the section "Guide for authors".

Peer review process

Receipt of articles: It is reviewed that the article complies with the requirements established by the Journal. If the article does not meet the requirements established in the Guide for Authors, an email will be sent to the authors notifying that the article does not meet the minimum requirements to be submitted to the editorial process of the Journal. If the article meets the minimum requirements for the submission of the Journal, the authors will be notified of the receipt of the article. The time to perform this procedure is five (5) days from the moment in which the article is received.

Analysis of originality: The originality of the articles is verified in iThenticate.

Review by the Editorial Committee: The articles received will be sent to the Editorial Committee, who will review the content and relevance of the work in accordance with the topics of the Journal. If the concept issued by the Editorial Committee is not favorable, the authors will be informed that the article has been rejected due to the arguments presented in the Review Form. On the other hand, if the concept is favorable, the article will be submitted to the peer evaluation process.

Assignment of peer reviewers: The Editorial Team of the Journal will send the requests for evaluation of articles to the peer reviewers defined by the Editorial Committee. The peer reviewers selected by the Editorial Committee must meet the following conditions:

  • Master's or Doctorate degree
  • Have publications in the last three years
  • Colombian researchers (to have updated CvLAC)
  • Be an external evaluator

Double-Blind Peer Review: The peer reviewers do not know the name of the authors of the article. To make the evaluation, the peer reviewers have a total of twenty (20) days. Similarly, the authors do not know the name of the reviewers assigned by the Journal.

Evaluation results

According to the results obtained in the first round of evaluations, the following cases are found:

Approved article: The peer reviewers issue a concept and approve the article for publication. The authors are notified of the editorial decision.

Approved article with minor / major modifications: The peer reviewers issue a concept and approve the article with minor modifications. The revisions will be sent to the authors to make the changes in a maximum time of ten (10) days. Once the changes made by the authors are sent, a detailed review of the changes made will be carried out as indicated by the peer reviewers. If the article does not comply with the corrections, the authors will be notified that the new version of the article is not accepted for publication, because the observations were not addressed.

Explanatory notes:

  • For approved articles with major modifications, peer reviewers will be asked for a second round of evaluation. To carry out the evaluation, the peer reviewers have a total of ten (10) days.
  • If the authors do not fully address the comments made by the peer reviewers, they must state the reasons why they did not respond to the suggestions through a letter addressed to the Editorial Committee of the Colombian Journal of Computing.

Rejected article: The peer reviewers issue a concept and reject the article for publication. The authors are notified of the editorial decision.

Communication to the authors

The Colombian Journal of Computing will send the authors the editorial decision, as the case may be: (i) Approved article for publication, (ii) Approved article with minor modifications, (iii) Approved article with major modifications and, (iv) Rejected article.

Article of scientific and technological research

Document that presents, in a detailed manner, the original results of research projects. The structure generally used contains four important sections: introduction, methodology, results and conclusions.

Reflection article

Document that presents research results from an analytical, interpretative or critical perspective of the author, on a specific topic, using original sources.

Review article

Document product of a research where the results of published or unpublished research are analyzed, systematized and integrated, on a field in science or technology, in order to account for the advances and development trends. It is characterized by presenting a careful bibliographic review.

Short article

A brief document that presents preliminary or partial original results of scientific or technological research, which usually require prompt dissemination

Case report

Document that presents the results of a study on a particular situation, in order to make known the technical and methodological experiences considered in a specific case.

Theme review

 Document resulting from the critical review of the literature on a particular topic

The names and e-mail addresses entered in this Journal will be used exclusively for the purposes declared by this Journal and will not be available for any other purpose or other person.
