Article Review and Decision-making Process

Stage 1. Reception of articles. Only articles submitted through the journal's official platform six months prior to the issue for which it is applying will be accepted.

Stage 2. Preliminary review. Initially the articles are submitted to a preliminary decision-making round by the Editorial Committee, to verify the paper's thematic relevance and fulfillment of academic and formal requirements. Once the editorial committee approves the article, the author must sign the declaration of originality in order to formally register the article. This stage takes no more than fifteen (15) days from the date on which the article is received.

Stage 3. Assignment of peer reviewers Reflexión Política ensures that a minimum of 70% of the peer reviewers are unrelated to the publisher's institution. Each manuscript shall be assigned two (2) peer reviewers who are specialists on the matter, with the double blind method Each peer reviewer receives a review form, the article in question and a conflict of interest statement form, ensuring author anonymity and indicating the return date. Peer reviewers have a maximum of thirty (30) calendar days to submit their decision.

Stage 4. Decision The decision may be: approved, approved with changes, or rejected. In the event of disagreement between the peer reviewers, a third reviewer may be assigned, or the article may be submitted to the editorial/scientific committee, to decide on publication of the article. The author of the article will only receive the opinion, recommendations and decision; the peer reviewer's personal and academic information is omitted.

Stage 5. Editing The author shall abide by the suggestions made by the arbitrators, and submit the revised article within the next eight (8) business days. The editorial team will review the article in its final version, and may request further adjustments if deemed necessary.

Stage 6. Publication. Articles that ultimately meet all the quality, relevance and innovation requirements of the review process are moved on to style editing, the layout process, and subsequently to digital publication.

Indications for the review

Reviewers shall take into account aspects such as:

  • Topic novelty
  • Relevance of the topic for Political Science
  • The article's logical structure and consistency
  • Consistency between the central theme and the methodology used
  • Argumentative development of the text (argumentation, order and logic of the presentation).
  • Relevant, up-to-date bibliography.

Reflexión Política ensures that a minimum of 70% of the peer reviewers are unrelated to the publisher's institution. The peer reviewer must complete the review within thirty (30) calendar days. However, the total review process may take between 1 and 3 months. The decision issued by the reviewers may be:

  • Approved
  • Approved with changes
  • Not approved

Authors must make the changes requested by the reviewers and Editorial Committee within the indicated time period. The Journal reserves the right to make the final decision regarding publication of the article and the issue in which it is included, which depends on meeting the documentation delivery deadlines.
