Open Justice and public participation for a people-centered approach to justice

Keywords: open justice, people-centered justice, open government, open government partnership

Abstract

Open Justice encompasses a crucial component of public participation that aids justice institutions in designing and implementing a people-centered approach to justice. Using data and evidence regarding people’s legal needs, enhancing the capacity of justice professionals to engage in evidence-based work, and fostering environments conducive to justice innovation are integral to the vision of Open Justice. These activities are necessary for the participatory development of a people-centered approach to justice, which contributes to a more equitable access to justice. The Open Government Partnership is the main platform for the implementation of justice reforms based on public participation and can serve to accelerate the adoption of this approach in the framework of Open Justice reforms.
