Scientific output in political science. A comparative analysis of Colombian and inter-national journals indexed in Scopus (2019-2023)
Abstract
In order to know the current state of political science production in Colombia and offer inputs for the formulation of editorial strengthening strategies, we present the results of a comparative study between Colombian and international journals, using a mixed methodology that combines bibliometric and content analysis based on data extracted from the Scopus database for the period 2019–2023, incorporating composite indicators (H-index, SJR, citations per document), authorship patterns, international collaboration, languages of publication, and thematic dynamics based on text mining and semantic networks. The results show that Colombian journals lag behind the other journals in the sample in terms of the number of articles published in English, international co-authorship, and number of citations. Thematically, despite the centrality of topics related to the internal armed conflict, there is an editorial policy aimed at incorporating dominant and emerging topics on the international agenda.
